It is a matter of opinion that a wood burning pizza oven yields a
better tasting pizza. Some just love the taste of a pizza after being
baked in one of these ovens.
Pizza ovens are not only for restaurants anymore. More and more
homeowners are having wood burning ovens built in their back yard
patio areas as part of the ambiance of the space. These tend to give
a classic, rustic and romantic feeling to the area.
Many people may think that a wood burning pizza oven is not a
useful addition to the patio space because they do not believe it will
be used often enough to justify its presence or expense. After all,
how many pizzas can one family eat? However, what others are
discovering is that these types of ovens can be used for much more
than just making a pizza.
These ovens are also used for baking breads, roasting and braising
meats of all varieties. Slow cooking in these ovens can make for an
amazing meat. Nearly anything you can do in a conventional oven can
be done in a wood burning oven in the yard.
Another lovely side effect of using these ovens to cook on is that
you can put different types of wood in the burner and it will change
the taste of your food. If you want a sweeter taste you can add a
sweeter wood and so on. This can change the entire cooking
experience.
This having been said, learning to cook on a wood burning oven can
be some what of a challenge. Getting the heat to the temperature
needed can be an experience in patience. Once you get the hang of it,
however, the experience is amazing, fun and can be entertaining.
When selecting your oven you will want to have a clear vision of
where you want it to be. These are typically constructed right on the
site and so you will want to be sure you are putting it in a permanent
home. It should be close enough to the action to enjoy but far enough
away to be safe. If you are very ambitious you could create a few
sketches of the areas you are considering to see how it would look
there. Something of this size should definitely fit with the current
décor of the space.
