Store bought or delivery pizza simply cannot live up to the quality
and flavor of homemade. Learning how to build a pizza oven outdoors
can allow you to make authentic, wood-fired pizza from the comfort of
your own backyard.
Most people love the taste of authentic pizza from Italian
restaurants. Many people have tried to recreate the Italian flavors
they love so much from home, but they have been unable to achieve the
results they desire from their regular oven. This is because authentic
pizza is made in a wood burning oven. Learning how to build a pizza
oven outdoors can allow one to enjoy delicious, flavorful pizza
without needing to do a major home renovation.
When you are getting ready to build an outdoor pizza oven, the
first thing you will want to consider is the size. Do you want an oven
large enough to make just one pizza at a time? Or do you want to be
able to cook several at once for parties and similar occasions? Once
you have decided on the size you will need, you need to start digging
a pit that is roughly the size of the oven you will be building. The
pit also needs to be dug about five inches deep. Once the rough hole
has been dug, line the sides of the pit with wood, and fill the entire
hole with concrete. Allow the concrete to dry before proceeding.
Once the concrete base is dry, you will need to begin building the
fire encasement. To do this, measure one of the bricks you will be
using, and draw a line on the concrete slab that is equal to the
brick's width plus two additional inches from the perimeter. Using
concrete blocks, line three sides of the slab. On the front side,
leave a space for the door. On the outside of the cement blocks, begin
stacking your bricks to a height of roughly two feet. Make sure to use
mortar between each brick and between the concrete blocks.
Inside the fire encasement, build a wooden support out of
2x4s. Make sure to include a space for the door. Lay plywood on top of
the support and add another frame of 2x4s. Pour concrete inside the
frame, making another concrete slab. Once the slab is dry, build up
the exterior walls of the oven, leaving room for a door to slide food
in and out. Once everything is dry, put your doors in place. With the
doors in place and everything dry, you are now ready to begin baking
in your new outdoor pizza oven.
